L'encan.
The Auction.

Last evening, I went to a painting auction. I love auction! If I was a millionaire, I think I would just always do that... But you see, I am not, so I go sometimes and I sit on my number. Yesterday, though, I did some pics... You will agree that the place was somewhat exceptional: the Capitol Theater of Québec! It is in this theater that the great Sarah Bernhardt did a show in 1905.

To the right, this guy was receiving bids by phone...

Un moment de consultation...
Seeking advice from a friend...

Et voici quelques unes des figures classiques d'un encan...
And here, some classical faces you'll see at an auction...

What fun--auctions! I have been to a couple but they weren't the fancy kind. This looks so "for the movies." And Sarah Barnhardt! Oh my! I actually visited her gravesite in Paris. What an amazing woman!

You said you "did" some pics. Does that mean you bid on them or won them?

Great sequence! You really captured the feel. Particularly the bidder. Bravo!

ginnie: The "pics" I was talking about was the photos I took! Now I see the meaning you thought of. No, I didn't buy anything. No money now to buy paintings, though the average price was around 500$! Not too high, isn't it?

Now, the gossip: "People" say that this guy, the auctionner, had once buy a house (some say an old barn) with all that was inside. He did an auction and made a million! I don't know the truth in all that, but this auction really look fancy!

jo: Thank you! That guy was difficult to take, because most of the time from my seat, I didn't saw him. And I took pics of him because he's working for that auction. He bid for another person that is on the phone. I didn't take the chance to make photo of the public because usually, those persons want to stay anonymous

mr. fab: Hey! You didn't make me win your marvelous velvet painting of Elvis, WITH A TEAR, so... But I will forgive you......... some day...

I agree, this is a great post and makes me feel I was there. How exciting.

Oh my! Isn't it funny how our mind can take us in one train of thought that is totally different from what the author intended! Good example of why we can't always make assumptions!
